Hey!
I am a hardcore gw2 player (if something like that even exists...) and due to the current situation over there I am looking for a new MMO. Obviously GW2 and FFXIV are completely different games and I do not want to compare them directly, but rather ask you if you think that I can enjoy FFXIV or not. I know that there is a F2P version and I am currently downloading it. I have played WoW in the past and I do not want to go back to WoW, because I just can not keep up with the raiding endgame there and imo there isn't much else to do. Even with LFR, the game does not have much to offer for me.
The reason why I am thinking about quitting GW2 is the behaviour of ANet (developers of GW2) in general. There has been radio silence about the future of GW2 from ANet - beside a minor anouncement, that the new living world season will start ... whenever? ... and I am just feeling lost. With that I want to say, that not the game itself is turning me away, but rather ANet/the Devs.
So, now - what am I looking for in a new MMO?
I enjoy jumping in and out of the game whenever I want; I don't want/can not be tied down by schedules (obviously I do not expect to raid endgame content). I want to be able to progress ingame (almost) whenever I want to. I also highly prefer to play solo most of the time. Does FFXIV have some kind of group finder for dungeons? Is there some sort of easy-mode raids in the form of "Looking for raid" (as in WoW)?
I like to collect stuff, I am a completionist. GW2 is mostly about collecting stuff for achievements to unlock new stuff, collect all skins in the game and stuff like that. I love doing that.
I REALLY enjoy the convenience in GW2. Storage for your materials, you can deposit your materials from anywhere, you can port to almost any point on the worldmap within seconds, you can look up literally ANY item by typing "/wiki <itemname>" in the chat and the wiki-page for that item will open, and so on. How is the convenience in FFXIV?
So, in general, what does FFXIV offer in the endgame for someone that can spend quite some time in the game, but prefers to play solo (most of the time) and who can not follow strict schedules?
From what I have read about FFXIV, my main goal for starters would be to finish all quests/main stories, level up all professions (classes?), level all crafting professions - aka "max out everything". Im sure that this will take several hundred hours. But is there still something to do after that?
Edit: I am not interested in PvP.
