About 5 Months ago I started playing FFXIV (yeah, I was bored during quarantine and I gave the game finally a shot), and it took me a week to fall in love with the game, and about 1 and a half months to be my most played game ever. Now, finally, I got up to date with the Main story after finishing 5.3 the other day, and I needed to say this, this has probably been the best journey of my life. The story and the people I have meet, both things have been so amazing.
I have loved basically every second of it, and I don't regret a single second of the over 450 hours I have spent in the world of Eorzea. And a lot more is to come, I have so much side content still left to do, and so many amazing people to meet.
By playing the game so "quickly", and not having to wait for every patch I can see the amazing evolution this game has been through in the last 7 years. From the insane amount of filler quests in ARR, to the almost all perfect quests in 5.X patches. Also, other things have improved a lot as well, like Voice Acting. In ARR the few scenes that were voiced had a little below average voice acting, meanwhile ShB has been fantastic, Lyna's sticking out to me as one of the best I have ever heard. And a lot of other things as well.
The story, OMG the story. I personally am a person that doesn't usually cry, but sweet Jesus, 5.3 made me cry several times, and it has been beautiful. Never in my life have I been smiling like a 5-year-old that just got candy, while crying, throughout most of the patch that was my expression. The story went from just barely paying attention to fully invested to the extent of crying several times. So a big thank you to Natsuko Ishikawa for everything she has done, and I can't wait to see what else she does.
And obviously the music. Soken deserves an entire paragraph on his own, because he is a musical genius. He has composed so many absolute bangers for this game, it amazes me that he is only one person. He has definitely won a place in my heart, and a place together with some of the greatest modern composers.
And well, this could go on for a while, but I will leave it at this for now.
All I wanted to say with this post really is that I wish I had started playing this amazing game earlier, and got to enjoy it more like it was meant to be. But well, no way to change the past now, time to do a lot of endgame content I have not yet done. So this is something wired for me, I just wanted to pour my feeling for this game into a post, because I definitely think it deserves it, and as you might have guessed, I am not that good of a writer. I hope everything I wanted to say came over, and see you guys in the game. See you around!
