After about two months of reworking a large portion of my old guide, adding in all of the patch 5.1 changes, and adding in Ishgardian Restoration data... after losing a LOT of sleep (and then getting sick like an idiot because of it)... the latest version of my guide is FINALLY finished! I published it to my website late last night:
The drop-down menu that says \"Guides\" is where you'll find the actual guides
What the hell is a "Shade's Guide"?
For those who've never heard of it, ShadesGuide.com is basically a collection of spreadsheets containing absurdly detailed data tables that help a LOT with leveling up your crafters (crafting leves and Ishgardian Restoration collectables). Crafting leves and Ishgardian Restoration content is displayed side-by-side for easy direct comparisons. Do whichever you prefer!:
Full, detailed explanation (plus a TLDR summary) on how to read all of this in the guide's INTRO tab
These tables show you exactly:
- the best way to level up all crating jobs from Lv 1 - 80
- what you need to craft (whether you're doing leves or Ishgardian Restoration collectables)
- how to craft it all
- how many materials you'll need
- where / how to get all of those materials (including whether or not they can be purchased cheaply from an NPC)
...all in a single table!
Overview
I also included an Overview tab, which is basically just a giant list of my recommendations:
A whole lot of analysis went into this guide
As I was going over the new ARR crafting leve data, I realized that, as long as you've unlocked the ARR beast tribes, you can buy about 90% of the items you'd need to get to Lvl 50 on every crafting job--as in, you can buy the materials for super cheap from NPCs. That's why I recommend leves almost exclusively up until Lv 50.
But again, if you'd rather Ishgard your way all the way to Lvl 80, you can do that, too--the data's all there for you! I encourage everyone to do their own comparisons and come to their own conclusions.
Item Totals
And at the bottom of each crafting job guide, I've also included lists of all the items required to level up each job from 1 - 80:
Raw materials, crafted components, and requested items are all displayed separately. Items are sorted alphabetically.
This can help give you a general idea of which materials you might want to consider stockpiling as you prepare to start doing this stuff--if you're curious.
Item List
The guide also includes a full Item List page with details on how to obtain every item in the Miner / Botanist Gathering Logs as well as any other items referenced in this guide:
So... many... plants...
There are roughly 1,700 items in this list, and I've personally added and verified all of this data myself over the years.
Gear Finder
Have you ever wondered where to go to buy cheap gear from NPCs?
Wonder no more
This page shows you exactly where to go to find every type of gear for every job from Lv 1-80.
And that's about it! I am definitely happy with the guide as it is right now.
Next order of business: Youtube videos
The next thing I'm going to focus on is Youtube content. I have a ton of experience recording and editing videos, and I am SUPER EXCITED that I can FINALLY stop staring at spreadsheets all day and start making videos again.
I have a couple of small things to take care of before that, but they will be coming soon. I'm actually going to be uploading a Let's Play series of FFXIV videos on a new alt. People may hate me for this, but I've actually had to skip MOST of the FFXIV story so far--I was always in a rush to complete MSQs so that I could update my guide ASAP. I'm kind of excited to go back and actually enjoy the story this time. lol
The first video I'm going to upload is going to go through all of the FFXIV options/settings as I set up the UI on my new alt. (I play on PC with a keyboard/mouse.)
If you have any questions / comments / love / hate / whatevers about anything, please feel free to leave a comment or PM me! =)
P.S. - If you've been to my website in the past and it looks weird all of a sudden, try SHIFT + F5 (if you're using Chrome)--that should fix it!
