Hi all,
I recently received a copyright strike on my Youtube channel for having a clip taken in Limsa where a Bard was playing music from Mario, Tetris and a couple of other franchises. It's been up for maybe 5 months without issue but all of a sudden it shows as SE having claimed it and it being taken down. I've recently heard that Bard's have to accept something that says they agree not to play themes outside of FF or something (I don't play Bard). So I'm aware that this isn't something that SE officially supports but I always got the impression it was fine providing nobody reported the Bard and it ended there. Since reporting someone in game for playing music (which I feel is a nice addition and offers great nostalgia) is a bit of a crappy move by anybody, I figured it would never/rarely happen. What I didn't expect is for youtube videos showing such performances being challenged by SE. How do they even know? and why the heavy handed approach unless someone like Nintendo had claimed it for themselves?
I wanted to write this for two reasons:
1) To see if this has been going on for a while and gauge if I've just been lucky in the past. Has this happened to anybody else?
2) To warn other players who potentially have content on their channels with Bard music
I've since privatised similar videos on my channel just in case. I wouldn't want to get other players in trouble and definitely don't want additional copyrite strikes.
