Question on SD copy error

So, I have roughly 70 pictures from a Halloween Party on a normal SD card. Camera I used was a friend's Nikon Smartpix L18.

I can view them no problem on the camera, but when I insert the SD card into my laptop's SD slot and attempt to copy the pictures to my computer, it basically gives me an error saying "cannot copy: path too deep". I've read a few suggestions I found, but to no avail. It won't me copy them to desktop, tried a few folders, and won't let me rename the pictures for some reason. I'm using Windows XP OS.

Any suggestions off hand? I rarely deal with SD cards so never heard of this problem.

I ended up using friend's laptop with vista to copy the pictures to my thumbdrive. Still don't know why I was getting the error but I have the pics now. Everyone can rest easy now.
