So I’m right at the start of Shadowbringers, and as it’s clear the Ascian/Calamity stuff is going to be the focus of the plot now I’m going back through to try and catch up on earlier plot points I don’t remember all too well. There’s one point I’m slightly caught up on and was wondering if anyone could clear up with what I’m supposed to know by now.
Please no spoilers for anything after the first meeting with the Crystal Exarch where he sends you to find the twins, so apologies if this is covered in stuff I haven’t got to yet.
So I understand that when an Ascian dies, their soul lingers in the void between the living world and the Lifestream until they can pull themselves back in. White auracite traps the soul before it leaves and can be used to permanently kill them. My question is, do they need to possess someone like Lahabrea did to Thancred to be on the Source? If so, did we also kill whoever Nabriales and Igeyorhm were possessing when we killed them? Shouldn’t we have checked if the latter was, like, Minfilia or Yda/Lyse who were still missing at that point?
