I registered my account back in 2014. In doing so, I used my trans name. I do so in most circumstances with the exception of legal/medical/banking documents, and it never really created issues before. I have stuff shipped to me by my trans name, I sign up for everything under my trans name, because that's the name I actually go by.
Unfortunately, I had not expected SE to require legal documentation if anything happens to my account. Which it did. During the free returner campaign in November some IP from Switzerland (according to my login history) logged into my account and RMT spammed, and my account was banned. I went to resub recently and came to discover this. Upon trying to resolve the issue, here we are.
My ID was rejected, despite explaining the situation. Despite my address matching, my middle initial and last name matching, it was rejected cause the first name and sex are different. They want documentation showing a name change which doesn't exist because my name never legally was changed. (For the most part I haven't really "transitioned" IRL.) So now it's looking like I'm most likely losing the account i've spent thousands of hours and hundreds of dollars into. It really, really, really sucks.
I'm not here to decry Square Enix for their policies. 99.99% of the time this is for the best. I just want to pay the knowledge forward. Register your accounts with your legal name, even if you're trans. You'll never know when you'll need to prove it.
Edit: I want to note I'm still hashing it out with support. If I'm lucky, they might make some kind of exception for me mainly because of how much information does match, but from information I've read around it doesn't seem likely so I'm not holding my breath. Even if it does work out, I'd still advise avoiding this entire scenario if you can help it.
