Starting on October 1st, the Department of Homeland Security is going to begin enforcing the REAL ID act for the purpose of restricting access through federal facilities. This includes TSA checkpoints, who up until this October, have accepted most valid Driver's Licenses as proof of identification.
However, once the new regulations are enforced and if you plan to use your license to get past TSA checkpoints, you will need to check your license and make sure it has one of several gold stars in the top corner. It'll look something like this.
