I’ve decided to take up BLM, but the question would apply to MNK as well.
TL;DR - On PS5 with a controller (kb and mouse not an option) can you target an ally then use an ability on them using a macro mapped to a button?

One thing I like about RPR and PCT is that their Hell’s Ingress and Smudge allows them to zip across the map without targeting. Not so much with BLM’s Aetherial Manipulation and MNK’s Thunderclap. With a controller, it’s quite tricky to find an ally, target the ally, then hit the ability before eating the mechanic you’re trying to escape.
Recently, a WHM kept using Rescue on me and was giving me grief. I tried to explain that I wasn’t so stupid as to just stand there, I just couldn’t target and Thunderclap fast enough, even when using the d-pad to cycle to them. I figured using a macro to select a party member would be more effective.
Thoughts? Suggestions other than “skill issue”?
