In Eureka, we had Baldesion Arsenal which had the similar formula. You needed to do a fate for it to spawn, so you had to wait for the fate. I don't really remember the details but then you needed to get into the portals etc.
I am glad they scrapped the portal idea because of the feedback it got. But still there is a questionable design flaw about the decision they made about castrum "timer".
Let me try to make my point. I am rank 15. I didn't get the skirmish/CE fate achievements because i don't care but i got all the rewards from Bozja atm. (This includes all mounts, hairstyles, emotes, all lost actions, all field records). So i have no reason to be inside bozja at all except for castrum.
You can defend this by saying "well, this is the point. by making castrum inside bozja, this makes bozja participation higher, which ends up people doing content in bozja" etc.
But. %99 of the people who are like me atm only waits for castrum being afk-ish. Why would i grind fates in bozja? It literally gives me nothing. Castrum timer is 60 minutes for a fresh instance. I literally have to wait, doing almost nothing, for 60 minutes in game, inside bozja.
There is an achievement for clearing castrum for 50 times and there are various rewards that are tied to castrum. If a player focuses on these, they have to wait inside bojza for ages or just hop onto new instances trying to find an instance which has castrum spawned or has a lower timer than 60 minutes.
So what changed from eureka? people had to switch instances for pazuzu etc. (which were only fates that can be completed in 4-5 minutes tops). But castrum is more like an instanced dungeon. So i find this really odd they made a 2nd decision to put a duty that is similar to baldesion arnesal again inside an instanced duty.
My point being is, it is NOT fun to wait for something you need for 60 minutes. While waiting you cannot do anything, you cannot gather, craft, do other things in game in general. You have to be inside bozja.
I am really glad Delubrum reginae is a content you can just queue. They can, in fact, change castrum to be like this and i really believe it will make participation for castrum higher without even making castrum rewards more valuable. Because ffxiv community is helpful in general and people use discord or other means to communicate and find groups to run content. But when you make a content gated behind a 60 min wall, i wouldn't waste my time waiting to help someone.
Please for 5.55 bozja (if there will be a content like this) or for future eureka-type content, make things like you did with delubrum reginae. It is easy to queue and more fun that way.
Castrum was %100 less enjoyable for me just because i have to wait endlessly. And i don't think it makes things more enjoyable for anyone. Thank you.
