I literally created a forum account for the first time to come and add my voice to the current litany against these proposed changes.
First and foremost: the job was advertised as high speed, so proposing changes to "reduce busyness" is, in my opinion, a big red flag; it already seems opposed to the core identity of the Job as a flashy speedster. Always having somewhere to move and something to press is the entire reason I main melee DPS, and to take that away from Viper so soon feels incredibly sad.
Furthermore, the main time the job feels busy is when double weaving the Twinblade oGCDs, but you are given plenty of time to double weave due to the longer GCD recast time. I plan on U.S. servers from Japan, with 150+ ping, and I can still make those double weaves. The rapid-fire feeling of the class is totally manageable.
Finally, trying to "ease directional requirements" is a huge step backwards, I feel. The only time there is even a real directional requirement at all is the swap from Flank>Rear or Rear>Flank during Dreadwinder. With DRG getting its positionals changed, Viper is now the only Job that requires a positional change -- unless you count a double charged Guillotine/Gallows. To remove that would be yet another step towards unnecessary homogenization, especially as Viper has the advantage of a 3s cooldown (2.55 with Haste) between the positional change. If there's never going to be any back to back positionals in this game anymore, what do we even have True North for?
Viper plays just fine, and more importantly, it feels amazing. The busyness is not a problem, it is the class identity. It is far too early to announce changes to reduce the intensity. I'm having the most fun I've had on melee in years, and I'd be deeply saddened to have its speed and positonals reduced to match the other DPS. Let Viper continue to fill its niche out on the extreme end of the spectrum.
