Currently rankings are tied to the character only, and additionally with the recent 7.1 changes, only the best character ranking shows up and qualifies for the leaderboards per player account as to avoid alt stacking up the board and taking up spots.
As I don't think a dedicated thread has been made for this specific issue (but I could be wrong), I want to create this one to ask if we can instead get rankings attached to jobs instead of characters.
No more alt job griefing
This would prevent players to keep jumping between jobs that they do not master, or at least don't play at the same level than the one of their main, since for example someone being crystal on Paladin, would not be able to queue up for crystal as a Dragoon that they have only leveled up to gold. Instead, if said player was to queue up with Dragoon, they'd be matched with players to their level, which is gold.
Since high rated players will still inherently have a solid universal basis for the mode, it is possible to imagine making them start something like 2 leagues under instead of the full ladder for example, if this proves too much of a drop.
Leaderboards
Only one character counted for the leaderboard per player account would stay as a rule. Additionally, only the highest rated job would count for said character ranking on the leaderboard, to make sure that only one character/entry shows per player account as currently.
Data and information
An interesting side effect would be to also display the job which each character on the leaderboard is rated for, which I do believe would give us a clearer picture of which jobs do perform better than other and the overall meta. More information is always good to have, even if it's not hard to tell even without. I'm sure SE has all the data on their end, but as a player I'd also like to get a glance at it?
At an individual level it would also be nice to be able to track our own performance as players with data per job, showing us which ones we do perform the best with, which ones we are struggling with, and being able to tell "I managed to reach crystal on X amount of jobs" would be a form of self achievement as well.
As a reminder, I've seen screens of a pvp plugin that specifically tracks all that data, per job, per map, with a lot of filters... Game could benefit from having a few of those, and not just the amount of games won.
Replayability, content shelf life, and queue activity
I think the best argument for such a change is the incredible boost it would give to sustain ranked queues especially on non JP datacenters that tend to suffer over time. If players are bored and want to try to rank another character, they can do it with a job instead, which is a lot easier. I've seen quite a few alt characters in queue even though their players gain literally nothing since only their main will show up on the leaderboards, so I think there is definitely a big demand for replayability.
With the hope that this could be a consideration for a more active and pleasant ranking experience.
