What's a quick way to ERASE one solid color from a layer? I don't mean fill it in with another color, be it white or black, I mean ERASE it.

Easy neo, use the magic wand, set the tolerance to 0, make sure contiguous is unchecked/disabled click the color you want to delete, then hit delete, simple as that. If its text/shapes/etc make sure you rasterize the layer first.

If its the background, make a copy of the background layer, delete the background, then follow those same steps.
