Hello.
So, I'm brand new to MMO gaming. I've been eyeing FFXIV for many years and even had the launcher installed on my computer for two months before even opening the game for the first time.
Just recently decided to pull the trigger and over the past few weeks have been an absolute blast. I decided to start my experience by trying two characters based off of my D&D characters: a warrior tank and a conjurer healer. Turns out I'm really into the healer as I'm enjoying the storyline better.
This is what's worrying me; not only do healers have a lot of pressure on them to keep the party alive, but I'm also an older gamer that doesn't have a whole lot of time to dedicate to long gaming sessions (usually can carve out max 2 hours on a good evening).
Right now I'm loving FFXIV because I can do a couple quests in a 15-30m session by myself and really enjoy the story. I've enjoyed it so much that I bought the Complete Edition on Steam Summer Sale for when I get past LVL 35.
So, like the title says, I'm concerned that when the time comes to actually play with others, I'm going to essentially be a worthless player and hate it (but don't want to).
I guess what I'm trying to ask is... is there anything I can do to better prepare myself for this stage of the game? Is there aspects to the game that benefit solo players? Can one play solo for awhile? Are there servers that favor new players and/or have FCs dedicated to older gamers (i.e. parents, 30+ gamers, etc.)
Thanks.
