So I played WOW pretty heavy through high school and college from 2004 and on (Christ I'm old). And I recently picked up FF14 (including the critically acclaimed Heavensward Expansion). I've been playing the game almost exclusively in my down time from work and the last two weeks I've had vacation so I've been playing it a lot heavier than is normal for me.
My goal is to play the game the way you guys did back in 2.0 and onward. I'm doing the content more or less in the order that it was released. I did A Realm Reborn finished it off then did Syrcus Tower. Then I opted to do the extreme trials which I found phenomenally fun. I started on Moggle Mog then did Garuda, Ultima and Shiva - all synced. I did the post-patch content and moved onto Heavensward.
Let me stop here for a sec.
I know the whole "blah blah (and the critically acclaimed Heavensward expansion)" thing is kind of a meme. But it's really not. It's real life. This expansion is not only narratively perfect both in story, emotional tone and how it flows from one point to the next in the story. Visually it's amazing. And I don't mean graphically. I mean VISUALLY. The entire thing is done with in-game camera angles very similar to a John Ford movie. Whoever did the work on these cinematics understood cinematography.
So anyway - HW. I finished it out last night. Did the Fractal Continuum and the Warring Triad. Now I'm doing the HW extremes and I love them. I tried doing Thordan EX but the group I got through PF was mostly new people like me and we banged our heads against it 3-4 times but kept wiping. So it was midnight and we said screw it
tl;dr
This is a really, really good game and I wish more people would give it a try. I'm ridiculously hooked on it.
