Like many of you, I've been in the MMO scene for ages. Most nothing really surprises me anymore, but making the swap to FFXIV from WoW as my daily driver was something truly special. I got to experience amazing story content, gorgeous art, and some pretty great systems. Unfortunately, I stepped away right as Shadowbringers launched. I had heard the hype, so I knew I had to experience this with my partner.
For those who game regularly with your partner, Im sure this is nothing new. Just like TV shows and movies, its pretty hard to want to experience something new in a game without them. The mutual enjoyment just tends to be something unique and special, and in my case I knew I had to wait.
Fast-forward to last night, and I finally got my wish. We decided to dive into FFXIV for the first time together. An experience that, to be honest, was more magical than I expected. While I'm sure this is not exclusive to gaming as a couple, getting to see my fiancee discover more in depth character creation than she ever had and seeing her want to finish just one more MSQ was really special. We left off at level 11 in Gridania, her as an archer, and myself as a Lancer.
For the first time since I started playing MMOs about fifteen years ago, I got to see the magic of being in a new world once again.
I don't want her to lose this wonder. With that in mind, has anyone else been in a similar boat? What did you do to make sure your partner enjoyed the game as much as they could?
Thanks!
