I've always heard and read about bots and people's stories about them, and today I had my first experience with one.
I was playing NIN and queued up for Leveling Roulette. Dzemael Darkhold. Nothing too terrible but can potentially be a drag if the tank isn't familiar with the mechanics. My party consisted of a WAR, WHM, RDM, and I.
At first things seem to be going okay, the WAR is correctly pulling the mobs into the crystals, but then he stops at the very first magitek key and sits there waiting for it to open the hidden room. RDM and I kindly tell him that it isn't important, but he doesn't say anything and walks in and stands in front of the chest without opening it for an ungodly amount of time. Finally he moves again and pulls the entire room, but tanks them all in the center and not in the crystal tucked away in the corner. The WHM tried, but couldn't keep them up, the RDM was the only one who could do any decent damage, and I was forced to use Katon whenever it was off cool down.
I checked his info after this and saw that he had a PLD at 80 and his WAR was at 70 (wearing full Aug. Scaeven gear). At first I assumed he was job and story booster, but everything became clear when we fought the Floating Eye. The WAR pulled the boss into the first set of crystals, and when that was about to expire, the rest of us moved while he sat there not using any abilities save for defensive cooldowns and the occasional Overpower. It finally dawned on us that we were playing with a bot and not some stubborn mule who didn't read chat. Eventually we let him die and let the boss come over to the last set of crystals where we easily burst it down. Unfortunately, the chest had been opened and we had to wait for the timer to expire before we could kick the WAR, but it was entertaining to see him go on his scripted path to teleport into the next room and pull the mobs expecting the rest of the party to be there only to die alone. This happened at least 3-4 times before he got kicked and we quickly got a replacement.
So yeah, that was an interesting first impression of a bot for me. I did report them and did some outside digging to discover that they belonged to a very small FC of potential bots with very normal names and appearances. However, every single one of them had at least one job at 80 and GLA below 20.
