Macro's Are The Easiest Thing- Or - Some Hotbar Magic

Hullo! Welcome to my brief guide on increasing your hotbar quality of life! I’ve lamented that I’ve only had 10 hotbars available, with so many things I’ve wished to fill up- like emotes, macro’s, items, ect. Ect. So today, I’ll be sharing a simple macro that some might be unfamiliar with.

You might not know this, but you in fact have extra hotbars just sitting there doing ABSOLUTELY nothing. These are your base class hotbars, like Gladiator, Conjourer, Rogue, and so on. So let’s make some use of these. So enter your Character Configuration and head to the Hotbar section. There, entering sharing- here you can determine what you want shared across all classes and jobs. In the case I’m using, and for the purpose of this guide, I’ll be using hotbars 1-3 as class/job specific. These hotbars will change depending on the class and job you have equipped. You can have any number of hotbars shared, which actually increases the available hotbars you want access to at any given time.

Make note of the shared hotbars you’ll want to use, for the purpose of this guide, I’ll be using 4, 5, and 6 as the shared hotbars.

Now... let’s go to the hud layout menu. You can have up to four loadouts saved, so make sure you keep the one you use the most as slot 1! Copy your main loadout to at least one of the available four. In this copied loadout, move hotbars 4-6 into the position, size, and shape you desire, this will be the spots they’ll occupy in all classes. For the purpose of this guide, I’ll be changing them to 3x4 and 160%.

Next, move your non-shared hotbars to a comfortable place, and also change them to 3x4. Move 1 near 4, 2 near 5, and 3 near 6. Save this loadout, I’ll call it Loadout 2.

Be sure to back up your main loadout!

Pick a class you want to remain empty, for this guide, I’ll be using the Archer class (ARC). You might have to buy an ARC main hand, so head to town and by a lvl1 bow if you only have BRD weapons. Unequip your jobstone. Here 1-3 will be empty, so best to clear out these slots. Now comes the Macro. Go to your macro menu and generate a new macro. We’ll call this ‘Clear.’ Give it a macro icon- beside the name, you can click on the M icon which will give you a list of icons to choose from. We’ll make this a nice X icon. Place the following code into macro.

/hudlayout 1 /hotbar copy ARC 1 share 4 /hotbar copy ARC 2 share 5 /hotbar copy ARC 3 share 6

This macro will clear out hotbars 4-6, leaving them empty.

And... that’s it! You now know how to use your class hotbars as hot swappable hotbars! You can fill these with anything you want! What more, you can also copy job bars and move them to others, like having Scholars share stuff with White Mages! Just replace ‘share’ with a job/class name! The possibilities are endless! Well, not really, but they do broaden your available hotbars significantly. In fact, this is the main way most Bard’s use for Performance hotbars!

This is the macro's in action! It's time to declutter your screen!

Here is a list of all class' and job's abbreviated names, so you can start making your own macros!
