So, the ending of 5.2 suggests that the Warrior of Light's heritage is not the progenitor of Hydaelyn as many thought, but rather a third "faction", if you will - the Defector.
Given some revelations suggested by u/S-Flo, I got thinking about one of ES's dialogues that always seemed to stand out.
"My world will have no need for heroes."
We've known since 5.0 that Emet-Selch and the Warrior of Light's ancestor were good friends, at least, so I've considered for some time that our past-self might have done something to give such disdain to Emet's words.
Like many, I figured it reasonable that the Warrior of Light might have been the cause of Hydaelyn; to snatch back self determination for the people, by what ever means necessary - but it seems that isn't the case.
Instead, what if the Warrior of Light's predisposition for facing down calamity isn't new?
What if when The Sound threatened their society, the WoL decided to stop it themselves? In my head, I'm picturing the Amaurotian WoL reassuring their friend - "I'll be back before you know it."
But they never did come back, did they?
That's the sort of loss I can hear behind Emet-Selch's words when he speaks. A sense of betrayal - feeling that when we were most needed, the WoL just up-and-left; not only Amaurot, but Emet as well. More than that, I would personally feel responsible. I could have helped. Maybe if I had gone with them... This could explain why he was so hopeful - for lack of a better word - that maybe the Warrior of Light was deserving of the legacy of Amaurot.
Now unrelated to Emet-Selch, I've been considering. If what u/S-Flo says comes to pass and it ends up that Venat is the core of Hydaelyn as Elidibus is the core of Zodiark, what happened to the progenitor of the Warrior of Light?
What if it wasn't Zodiark and Hydaelyn that saved the star?
We've already seen that a soul of sufficient determination can act as a seal against very powerful entities. It may be that the Amaurotian Warrior of Light didn't return not because they failed - but because they succeeded. Imprisoning, banishing, sealing away or sacrificing themselves to end whatever caused The Sound. While the summoning of Zodiark might have saved Amaurotian society from the run-away chaos of their own creation magic, it's never been said that it did anything against the inciting incident.
This has turned in to an essay, I'm sorry. This has all just been rattling around in my head since Tuesday; hopefully it isn't too big a slog to read through - and thank you!
