I don't get much time for gaming anymore, but when I do, I've tried to spend it getting caught up in FFXIV (I'm still in Heavensward's story, so I imagine it will take quite a while to get caught back up to current).
Well, World of Warcraft is having a 15th Anniversary event right now, which is a pretty big deal, and it includes a cool new mount you can attain in it. So I thought, hey, I'll pick the game back up for a month.
Woof.
The community is so volatile. Even in these frivolous "anniversary events", which are supposed to be fun and generally fluff content, people are losing their minds, cursing each other out, others are purposely trolling the group and wiping the raid...
All in all, it was a miserable experience.
Conversely, I just posted I think about a week ago, about running a dungeon for the Main Scenario in FFXIV, and despite spending almost an hour wiping on a single boss, everyone in the group remained not just civil, but helpful, friendly, and encouraging one another. Even though we only met in a random dungeon queue, we were a team.
I don't know what it is about FFXIV that seems to bring out the best in people, or maybe just draws a certain type of gamer, but whatever the reason, this remains an awesome community.
For me, it makes the decision to stick with FFXIV plain as day. Here's hoping I can finally get caught up in the story one of these days!
