I've been playing FFXIV for around 4 years now, and I recall this being an issue while I was still a sprout where people during ARR/even late ARR would not have Job/Soul Crystals equipped, including me briefly. I didn't even know what it was until luckily in Tam-Tara Deepcroft(i was level 32 at the time synced ofc), a player was nice enough to explain to me. I was playing DPS, so it wasn't to detrimental to the party luckily.
ANYWAYS, I made a new character a few weeks back and have started replaying MSQ finally just for fun and to go over some funny lore bits and all that. But, while playing through content or even just trying to do dailies, I notice the forbidden Soul Crystal issue once again. While running dailies, I had a Gladiator in The Stone Vigil, aka the first dungeon to knock your teeth in in MSQ. I initially had tried to explain that they needed to do their job quest so that they can enjoy the game much more since they seemed to be having a hard time. I was playing Scholar, and though I am new to SCH.. the enemies were of course ripping through my shields like wet toilet paper and the tank was getting two-shot by 3-4 enemy pulls (also most likely a gearing issue on top of a lack of Soul Crystal but that can usually still be worked through with small pulls). I ended up getting yelled at for lack of heals and then just leaving because I simply didn't have the energy to explain the same thing I already had.
Another example, I had queued for I believe Dzemael Darkhold thinking it would be fine because I had done the dungeon a bajillion times on my main. But I was VERY wrong lol. I wasn't caught up on my job quest because I believe I leveled up RIGHT before I queued in, and didn't have Lustrate yet. That, paired with most likely being under geared just made the run miserable. Although, this is an error on my part (plus the iL range for ARR being kinda ridiculous but that's a separate issue) that run would've been way less miserable if I was FORCED to do my level 45 Job Quest before being allowed to queue in. (also not sure why that's a level 44 dungeon, but I digress)
Sorry for being kinda rambly about it but I figured I'd just give some examples to try to get my point across. I can see how this can be huge hinderance for people just trying to get their dailies done and can honestly ruin the experience for questing or going through MSQ. I remember as a sprout thinking the game was genuinely hard at times when in reality it's because Job Quests are ultimately "optional" since the game doesn't actually force you to do them. It's honestly miserable having to play through a duty when a tank/healer is missing half of their abilities and stats at their level, and it taking for ever if the "culprit" is a DPS.
