My mom has been a Final Fantasy fan for as far as I can remember. When I was growing up, she played FF11 on her days off work and FF8 and FF10 are some of her top favorites. She hasn't done a lot of video gaming in a long time because of work and other life events, so she asked me what I had been playing recently. When I mentioned FF14 she signed up and got an account to play with me! I wanted to share the funny moments I've had with her as a new player getting into the game so, here are some notable things from when we played!
WARNING THERE IS SPOILERS. The spoilers are for post ARR but still, it is minor spoilerage. I don't really know how to reddit so I hope the image I attached shows up lol. I'm the Viera on the left and my mom is the Miqo'te.
She wanted to take a screenshot with me after I showed her my gpose pics
-My mom saw a fate near revenants toll and left while I was still buying things from Rowena for DRK and as soon as she joined, she died in one hit and said "Nevermind, I guess the fates were against me"
-After Moenbryda died, my mom went to the rock and said "guess we're doing to thing to pay respects to what's-her-face. I forgot her name already" and honestly same
-"does he watch me and see me going pee?" Asking about Midgardsormer disappearing and reappearing during a cutscene
-"If you aren't a main character, I don't have an emotional attachment to you" (talking about the people that died at the waking sands) edit: she told me she does like the doman kids more now lol
-Me: *gushing over the Doman children in the cutscene she's in*
Mom: You're gonna live as a mom vicariously through these virtual children, these are my grandchildren now aren't they?
-My mom just started skipping through a cutscene once when Urianger started talking because "he talks a lot of words for someone who wasn't there"
-Her phone went off a few times while playing and got confused because her chocobo wasn't out. Her ringtone is a chocobo kweh sound and I love it
-She gets really happy after finally getting a clear on a trial after wiping a few times and honestly, it's super wholesome some watching her get hyped
-I was showing my mom how to use the glamor chest/armoire and retainer so her inventory doesn't get full of armor. so I put the witch mogstation costume she bought on a glamor plate and applied it. An hour later she called me to her room and was she said she cant make it go away and got angry when I said you had to have a prism to dispel it and angrily grumbled the whole time she teleported to Gridania so I could trade some to her
-My mom got the wind up Y'shtola minion in her Shadowbringers outfit and thought it looked really cute... I was very confused on what she was talking about at first though because she kept calling Y'shtola Iestoa
-My mom was telling me about the cool white haired guy talking to a girl about Minfillia in the Shadowbringers opening cutscene, and was asking me who that was (I said I couldn't tell her lmao)
-She also asked me if Thancred hooks up with anyone after I said he kinda becomes a dad. I said I couldn't tell her because uhh, well we all know what happened to Minfillia. Now she thinks he's going to hook up with Yugiri lmao
-I was trying to help my mom with a trial's mechanics, and before I could finish she died and gave me the most disappointed look and said "I dunno if I should take your advice ever again if I keep dying."
- Me: so uh, whatcha doin?
Mom: admiring my character. Isn't she pretty? *her character pressed against the wall so the camera zooms in*
-My mom accidentally walked into an area where a fate started and immediate turned the other way yelling "nope! not doing that!"
-She says "come at me bro" every time she uses provoke as a tank
-My mom was complaining to me about a quest she was doing and I found out it was the Hildibrand quests. She finds them super annoying which is unfortunate, so to just annoy her I will do the manderville man dance next to her character so when she comes out of a cutscene that's the first thing she sees
-My mom got lost in a dungeon as tank leading everyone, and the other party members didn't say anything so she was just ?????? the whole time
-She's say thank you for healing me
after being healed sometimes and it's cute
I'll try to add to this as I play with her more! She actually got the game about a year ago, but hasn't really started playing a whole lot until more recently so that's why most of the comments she has is about post ARR content.
