This is partly a rant and partly me wanting to hear other's opinions on the matter. I encourage you to keep an open mind about what is actually toxic behavior and what is just harmless back and forth, as I will also keep an open mind while reading the replies.
Three days ago I was running eyes of the creator that I got from queuing up the alliance raids roulette. Being as how the run was unsynced you have to do a few mechanics to make the run ho smoothly. In the run no one was doing the generator mechanic, so a dps was complaining about how no one was doing the mechanics and how when people tried they weren't doing them right. So I said to him(and I'm fairly sure this is what I got reported for) "Dude shut the fuck up and do the mechanics yourself if we aren't doing them right". Aside from some more back and forth between us about how the mechanic should be done, nothing else was said for the rest of the run. A few hours latter i received and email saying my account was temporary suspended for 3 days due to violation of user agreement rule 3.3. Rule 3.3 is the profanity and offensive language rule and states "You may not use profanity or any language that a REASONABLE person would find offensive, The game is for a user aged 13 years and older, you have to behave accordingly". My question is what reasonable person that has been on the internet before thinks that "shut the fuck up" is enough to be reported for, and why the admin took action on such a subdued insult. Mind you I did not say anything homophobic nor racial, nor have I ever in all the time I've been playing the game. That is obviously a quick way to get banned. I have been playing ff14 for around 4 years now and have one prior action taken on my account 2 years ago which I'll admit was rightfully deserved. That means my account had the caution penalty placed on it which is the least severe. After caution is a warning penalty and after a warning is a temporary account suspension. I'm also curious why the penalty went right from caution to a temporary account suspension, skipping right over a warning. For those that say that you shouldn't use any profanity whatsoever, that is not stated in the rules and ff14 comes with a profanity filter that is enabled by default upon making a new account. Personally I feel that both the report from the player and the action taken by the admin were unjust and a clear abuse. Instead of people being that quick to report I feel people should either just let minor instances like this go, or utilities this wonderful feature in the game called a blacklist that seems to be so underrated. A mute button would also be great for people that don't want to deal with others in chat instead of unjust reports. I sent in a support ticket to the SE support center trying to fight the claim and here is the message I sent.
"I believe I was wrongfully issued a temporary suspension of my account. If the instance that action was taken against me for is the one that I am thinking of, the only thing I said that could remotely be seen as offensive was I told some one to "shut the fuck up". I do not believe that this is in any way whatsoever reason enough for a full temporary account suspension. The profanity rule states "3.3 Profanity and Offensive Language. You may not use profanity or any language that a reasonable person would find offensive. The Game is for a user aged 13 and older. You agree to behave accordingly." The language used was not racial in any way, nor homophobic. Offensive language is allowed within the game as long as it is not overly extensive or graphic. To say that what I said is either of those is false. The rule states that people of the age of 13 may play this game which is true, but in today's society children of much younger intake way worse content then a single "shut the fuck up". Most people would agree that "shut the fuck up" is something that most reasonable people would not find offensive, but instead would expect to hear as such online where way worse is constantly being spread".
As of this post, I have yet to hear back a reply on my 3 day suspension ticket and the 3 days are nearing it's end, but I would still like for the ticket to be reviewed because I do not want the temporary suspension penalty on my account as account penalties are permanent. As I said I would like to hear other's opinions on this so please reply and tell me what you think, both supporting my rant and against it, and tell me of you have had similar instances where you had action wrongly taken on you.
