We quickly learn it's because of the Echo that we have the vision which starts the game, but the peddler in your carriage mentions "ah, that'll be the aether sickness, then. You get used to it with time." Is that supposed to be because we're coming to a major settlement with an Aetheryte and aetheryte network, or is there some other explanation to this supposed affliction that is so common that a nobody NPC mentions it offhand?
(Tangentially related, why is it the Moogles at the start of a Gridanian WoL say you're special because you can see them, but then later other mostly-ordinary folk like Estinien, Sidurgu and Rielle, and Kan-E-Senna and her entourage of ordinary guards can see them? Is it one of those things where they just choose who can see them and who can't at any given time?)
