I was just now the victim of an in-game /tell scam and I'm here to let everyone know, including SE that something fishy is going on.
You will likely receive a totally random message from someone out of the blue about 'outrage' along with a fake forum link that requires you to sign in. Even doing a copy/paste into your web browser is enough for something bad to happen, such as taking you offline and disconnecting you from FFXIV as a friend actually sent me the link and even though they didn't put in their info they still crashed out of the game.
If you're the sort of individual who's as dumb as I am don't fall for this, I put in my account/password and was taken offline for almost an hour, couldn't even connect to the web with my phone! Thankfully during that time my account was not compromised and I've already taken the needed steps to ensure the information I gave out is no longer valid once my internet came back up.
The alignment of these events are too much to be a coincidence. Don't ever, EVER and I mean never-ever enter your account details into any link anyone sends you on any game. Whoever this naughty person is they're trying to exploit everyone during a very delicate time and I'm here to make sure they can't pull the wool over our eyes!
Please someone in SE read this and find this guy, ban him and make sure he can't steal anyone's account! Regardless everyone make sure to let your friends know that external weblinks probably aren't safe to copy/paste right now, especially from strangers.
