Now under no circumstances am I advocating the use of a third party program. Nor do I use one myself. But I find the lack of ingame feedback to be quite appalling.
Now I understand that other games such as wow also have this in the Vanilla client. But they allow addons. So people may download useful things to get the info they need.
In FFIX there is no such avenue so people must resort to the third party program.
In game, Tanks have that neato lil bar on the party UI that tells them if they are holding aggro. Healers know they are doing well as people arn't dead. But DPS are left hung out to dry to try and figure out weather or not they are actually performing their job well.
Sure, The fact the boss is dead or you clear content means someone is doing something right. But if one is following the TOS to the letter you very well may be getting carried. As there is nothing in game telling you that you are, or are not pulling your weight as a DPS.
What I would like to see added to remedy this is a PERSONAL DPS meter. Something that shows the DPS of only you and no one else. One that is accurate and does not rely on parcing, but due to only knowing your own dps stops any negativity of comparing yourself to others. A tool to be used within raid groups to compare notes and see where one might improve. A tool where at this lvl and this Ilvl I can see what kinda damage I should be doing and work on my play to get myself there.
In closing. I see why SE is against a general DPS meter. Not having one stops the toxicity of people bashing others for poor DPS. But not having a DPS meter of any kind also makes it so those of us who do not use a third party program, do not have the information as a player to better ourselves and carry our own weight. A personal DPS meter would go a long way to remedy that.
And as a more advanced feature, should be defaulted to off in the UI. Maybe have a in game tip that tells you about it and how to turn it on if you choose to do so.
