Annoying French person
My friend is having problems with (easy) math problems, and I didn't do any math at school since 3 years, so I forgot most of the stuff.

y + x² = 6x
y + 6x = 36

After 5 minutes of thinking, I found x = 6 and y = 0, but Im not positive... Anyone remember that sort of stuff, and / or has good web site with good explanations?
 
(1) y + x² = 6x
(2) y + 6x = 36

(1) y = 6x - x²
(2) y = 36 - 6x

6x - x² = 36 - 6x
x² - 12x + 36 = 0
(x - 6)²=0
x = 6, y =0

use elimination method because there is a negative x and a positive x. Otherwise you could set them both equal to zero and solve them together. ie 3/x -2/y -1 = -3/x + 8/y - 1

but elimination is easier.

3/x and -3/x cancel out leaving you with

-2/y + 8/y = 2

solve for y

then substitue y into the first equation to get x.

Im not gonna solve cause im lazy and its your problem.
