Little thought experiment I was pondering after telling someone that The Blackest Night is such an important part of DRK's kit. It's so good that there's probably not a single job in the game that wouldn't kill to have it. So I wondered whether every job had a skill that other classes would love to have for their own. As per the title, what would it look like if you took the best skill from every job? Could you even make something cohesive?
There's a couple extra conditions. For example, how to consider per-job resources? Every job has MP whether they use it or not, so stuff like TBN is fine, but what about WAR's Fell Cleave, which needs beast gauge? Or SCH's Excog, which needs charges of Aetherflow? Or class-based combos and restrictions? Could you give our uber-class SAM's Midare Setsugekka if it has no way of getting Sen? I see two ways of doing this:
I'd also assume that we take each skill we steal as if they were at level 80, with all the appropriate traits specific to that skill (so if we for some reason took DRK's gapcloser, Plunge, it'd have 2 charges from the lvl78 trait)
And as an extra thought, if we wanted to look instead at the best skill of each purpose, what sort of class could we make? For example, the best gapcloser, the best invuln, the best defensive cooldown, the best combo, the best single-target GCD heal?
I don't know every class intimately, but here'd be my suggestions for classes I have played to 80:
DRK: The Blackest Night, as said.
WAR: I think it has to be Inner Release, getting 10s of direct crits has to be really good for most classes right? Depending on how we bend the restrictions, if we could get Inner Chaos/Chaotic Cyclone just from having Infuriate, that would also be a good choice.
PLD: Depends on what role we decide to put this mega-class into. Clemency's potency is actually really strong, so if it was on a healer it'd be incredible. Requiescat might also be an option depending on what other skills are picked.
GNB: There's probably a case for No Mercy, a 60s cd 20s 20% damage buff is pretty damn strong. On the other hand, Blasting Zone is a 30s cd 800 potency ogcd, which is hilariously strong.
SCH: Not really sure here if we consider restrictions, since almost all of SCH's best skills need aetherflow. Maybe just having the Faerie would be good enough. Adloquium is a solid choice possibly.
WHM: Benediction's an obvious answer, but Holy's AoE stun is super strong too. Depending on how we handle resources, Afflatus Misery is probably a great option. SMN: Would Tri-disaster still apply both DoTs if they're not a part of the kit otherwise? If so, I'd say that's probably the best option.
MNK: So much of MNKs kit relies on other parts of it that I'm not sure any of it holds up in a vacuum. Even if we allowed class resources, how would MNK get greased lightning? Would Tornado Kick be constantly available if our uber-job has a max greased lightning stack of 0? Fists of Fire on the other hand would be a permanent 10% dmg up, which is pretty neat.
DNC: Technical Step. Well, assuming we get the dance steps too. Otherwise.. En Avant? it'd make our class very mobile.
FSH: Double Hook. wait...

Just take the skills as is. If a skill has a class-specific restriction, or needs to be comboed, we can't use it on our mega-class. Chosen skills need to not require other parts of its origin class's kit to function (or we could go super busted and pick out the best skills ignoring any restrictions, just based off of raw potency/cooldown/effects)
Some way of generating 'generic' gauge/charges. Maybe an Aetherflow-esque skill that just adds 2 or 3 charges that can be expended in place of any class specific charge. Or maybe a 1-2-3 combo that adds to a generic gauge?
