Shadowbringers has made me realize that this song held so much more meaning than I originally thought. There were a few lines that never quite made sense to me but now, holy crap the foreshadowing of lore. This stanza, I realized, is Hydaelyn singing about the fall of the Ancients.
"Now open your eyes while our plight is repeated"
The world is about to be destroyed by Dalamud. By falling stars and rains of fire, just like Amaurot. The Echo, the power of the ancients, must be awakened if the world is to survive.
"Still deaf to our cries, lost in hope we lie defeated"
The Ancient ones, destroyed and unable to save the world they once called home by themselves, hopeless and mourning as Zodiark would not return those that were taken.
"Our souls have been torn, and our bodies forsaken"
The creation of Zodiark and Hydaelyn. The Ancients' souls were ripped to shreds, torn, and gave rise to the first Primals, their bodies left soulless and dead.
"Bearing sins of the past, for our future is taken"
Hydaelyn's Sundering of Zodiark, splitting the world, taking away any future the Ancient Ones could've had, but bearing that sin for the sake of those that would come.
Am I reading too much into it? Maybe.
Sorry if this post has been made before I just had the epiphany while listening to it.
