("4-star" will be abbreviated as "star", as 1/2/3 star doesn't help with the final, R-300, 40/40 star or "10/10" "star" chocobo)
that is, with a 8/10 star dad and 5/10 star mom, getting to 8/10 children... is hard.

first time posting in ffxiv after receiving a lot of helps from the chocobo posts here!
So as a statistics major and computer science major, I got into the grinding and RNG for the chocobo racing sh*t. Very f**king confusing and frustrating, but I guess it is much easier to breed pedigree 6 than before..
What I did is that I wrote some program to simulate the breeding and count the result (yep, no math here); for each row/pair, 10000 breeding is simulated. This start with [1 4 1 4 1 4 1 4 1 4] parents - i.e. they already have 1 4-star on each row; that may not be the case for beginner, as it takes millions of MGP $$$ to get that covering permission.
Anything below 1000/10000 runs (i.e. 10% chance) is marked gray, as [1] you only got 10 breeding chances and [2] you would need male + female to continue inbreeding for next generation..
Anything above 2000 is marked as blue font, as that is likely where you would end up with the breeding.
My two takeaway from the chart:
- getting +1 "star" from average of parents is common; sometimes +0.5 because I just can'get male + female; at p6 I have two38/40 or 8/10 star male but have only 7/10 star female
- Yoshi-p really wants people to get p9. With "proper" inbreeding and fairly good RNG, it is possible to get to p9 with perfect 40/40 & 10/10 star, as you start with 0 star and go their one generation after generation.
- Finishing a newborn from rank 1 to rank 40 usually takes me ~35 runs (with Dressage III, hmm...), so if inbreeding starts at rank 4, do expect to run for ~20 hours of gametime. Don't rush it though...
