I'm not 100% sure people will care, but I'm sitting here, heart thumping, hands shaking, because I just had the fight of my life. I feel I have to talk about it.
I haven't really liked Tanking in the game up till now. I ran as a Dragoon through the story, and loved it. At 80, I figured I should try and level a tank up. Mainly so I can a class to run some solo content. So picked a Paladin.
Its a lot of stress. People wanting you to pull more, pull less, hold agrro on everything, be amazing, etc. A lot of the time, I really don't want that level of responsibility. I rather hang back and do as much damage as possible.
Running The Keeper of the Lake tonight, as part of leveling up.
And after the final boss, I'm buzzing. Its a tough fight, especially with two people who had never run it before. It...does not go well. People start dropping and getting rezzed, barely dancing through the mechanics, learning them on the fly. Healer is doing her best, healing and bringing people back.
Second mirage dragon, 10% left....and the healer and 2 DPS go down.
And I just....start dancing. Blasting all my cooldowns, hitting all my attacks, dodging any attack possible. I get him down. Breath temporarily. Cause now I'm all on my own against Midgard-damn-sormr! Weaving, dancing, dodging. No heal abilities, low health.
And I know he's all AoE abilities, so it's just a case of making sure I have perfect feet. But I don't let that big boy land a single hit on me. I carve that dragonly ghost down.
Easily the best I've ever felt playing FF14. Its hard to explain but I felt like a proper Warrior of Light, facing the dragon down on my own, corpses of my allies behind me. And it's made me fall utterly in love with tanking too.
FF14 is such an incredible game. I can't think of another MMO I played that can generate that level of blood flow. So happy.
