It was a dumb idea I had a while back - blue mages are strong, Lv60 blue mages in particular. Are they perhaps strong enough to solo ARR content? To that end, I first threw myself at the classic six primals (Ifrit, Garuda, Titan, Ramuh, Leviathan and Shiva). Each of them fell before the might of blue magic.
After that I poked around in the Coils a bit, and learned that T12 and T13 might be possible... but are just tremendously boring to do. I didn't spent long on them.
T5 though... an appealing candidate. Widely considered to be the easiest of the "morbol raids", the six raids that blue mages have to complete as a team to earn the morbol mount, it's known for its deceptively easy mechanics, trivial dps checks, cheeseable divebomb phase and deathable adds.
Thus, it was the perfect solo challenge.
I spent hours bashing my head on it initially, thinking that the Conflagration "jail" mechanic was a hard no-no to any further progress beyond phase 2. I put it down and didn't think much of it for a few weeks...
...but the allure of the challenge called me back. I sat down to show a friend that it was really hard, and somehow magically did enough dps to skip phase 2's nonsense! Flailing around in divebomb phase (I think I died to something pretty quickly after that), I realised that this silly solo challenge might, in fact, be possible.
Over the last few days I spent hours and hours, multiple lockouts and multiple streams, trying to take it down. Iterating on strategies. Making notes, scrapping notes, proposing theories and watching my hard work go up in flames at a whim.
All seemed lost, and after hours tonight I was ready to call it quits... before managing to wrap all of my haphazard strategies into one clean run.
This is that run. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/849384827
It's official - a single Lv60 blue mage is strong enough to defeat Twintania. It's very hard, very precise and super luck-dependent... but it's possible.
I don't think anyone has done this before, so this might actually be a world first. If you can count this absurd, unbelievably niche category of "gameplay" as worthy of such recognition.
To sum up, blue mage is strong, fun and rewarding. Strong enough to kill Twintania single-handedly. You should play it sometime!
