I've been playing mostly solo and it was nice when it was my choice to do so. However, this game has become incredibly boring and almost depressing to play now all by myself. After spending some time jumping through different Fellowships and trying a few FC's, I wondered why I wasn't making any actual friends. A lot of these FC's advertise all manner of ways to be involved and feel included to give you an incentive to join them, be it buffs or a discord server, so what could go wrong?
Well these FC's are usually decently sized, tight-knit communities and probably mean well with these offerings, but underneath that, the social aspect of the game has already been met for them. Someone like me who is in essence a complete stranger has the potential to add to their group, but they don't exactly have to put forth a lot of effort to make me feel like I'm actually one of them or could ever be. So just being a part of a group is not enough, I'm looking to form bonds, but it's a two way street. You have to be met in the middle somewhere, and it's just really frustrating and feels more like a game within a game at this point, trying to find people to click with when there's so many cliques.
I'm not saying it's impossible. I'm positive there are plenty of players who came to this game with no one and they met the right people and just hit it off and it went from there. I'm just saying that it's not a very easy thing in my own experience, to form these kinds of relationships on this game. Mateus is a big server. Port to any major city's aetheryte. Everyone's paired up. I'm feeling incredibly small and lonely in Eorzea.
