Hello,
This is going to be a small review of the FF14 Tactical Commander from HORI. Which I've received, tried to use, and am in the process of trying to return, but they have not replied to my support email, and it has been several days now.
So here we go.
I ordered the keypad from Square months ago on preorder but when the charge went through last month it came from some no-name company that is not Square and not HORI. My credit card picked up on it as a potential fraud and alerted me. I didn't recognize the company name or the amount so I didn't approve the charge. So I got emails from Square telling me the Hori charge had been declined. I looked at the amount being charged and realized the no-name company was doing the charge. Square should have alerted everyone the charge would be coming from a third party, but they did not. So already -1 for service.
I get the keypad, install the software. There are no hitches, everything goes nice, but in-game the joystick doesn't work. There is a switch on the bottom of the keypad (keypad/Analog) There is also a switch in the program. I've tried all combinations, but the joystick will not work in analog mode. I had to switch to keyboard mode and bind to WASD/Arrow keys. This was disappointing, but not a deal-breaker.
I made a profile and saved the profile in case things went south, which it did, almost immediately.
After logging in, my keypad is not using the keys I assigned, the keybinds were back at default. I opened up the software, and it showed the keys I programmed, but the keypad was transmitting default keybinds. Also, there is a profile button on the keypad. The profile button somehow got stuck on blue (profile 7) so that is why everything was at default. I hadn't programmed profile 7. But I also had never switched profiles, it should have remained in profile 1. I pressed the profile button to try to cycle back to profile 1, but nothing happened. The profile key wouldn't work. I tried unplugging the unit, resetting the profiles in the software, and here's the kicker. I tried restoring my profile from the save. It couldn't find the file. The software didn't see it, even though I confirmed the file was there via explorer.
So here I give up and email the company that apparently I have a defective unit with a broken profile button. Give me an RMA etc, etc. No reply. So I'm posting here since I can't go on Amazon or the Square site and review the product.
Thank you for your time.
