For once, I don't come with a question but with a hint, based on my experience.
Once arrived in Heavensward (Ishgard then Falcon's Nest), you should give immediate priority to unlock all aether currents to be able to fly within the zone (this includes doing some quests too).
To be able to fly - or not - makes an enormous difference! Personally, for Coerthas Western Highland, it was a no-fun-struggle until I was able to fly. So, for the zone after (no spoiler), I first unlocked flying before to do anything else.
Now of course, maybe that some like it when they struggle, but me I'm lazy sooooo...
