So I've been playing this game for a long time. Since 1.0 even. And I truly think it's amazing. And I really want to share this amazing game with my friends and I've tried multiple times over the years and just haven't gotten anywhere..
I have friends who are Final Fantasy fans, but not into MMOs. But I also have a lady friend who isn't into FF, but loves MMOs (particularly WoW). I've been unsuccessful with neither groups. The issue is, they've only joined the game so we can play together, but the game places so many gates in the way that it's almost unfeasible?
Nearly every dungeon is locked behind numerous MSQs. Again, since they joined to play together in multiplayer activities, these MSQs have almost zero interest to them, as it's pretty much solely a single player experience. Even worse, the beginning quests basically turn you into an errand boy for hours, giving you brief 15-20 minute breaks occasionally to run a dungeon. (This isn't me hating on the story btw, I absolutely love the story and lore of this game. I'm just repeating some things my friends have said and I agree with)
My MMO friend has not enjoyed any dungeon or trial she's played so far, as they're tuned to be so easy, they're nearly impossible to fail. As she is heavily into Mythic+, the dungeon design in this game has been a boring experience so far.
I have tried to assure them multiple times that the game gets better, and more difficult. But their interest is either already gone or heavily declining. One friend currently only logs in about 30 minutes a week just to get one or two MSQ down.
Does anyone have any advice on how I could make them enjoy the game more? Maybe not seclude and lock themselves into solo MSQs due to gates? Is story skips worth it for them? Especially for the friends who have zero MMO experience?
