I was inside a no-clip yurt
So I was in the Azim steppe after unlocking Namazus and I saw that the first Dataqi Chronicles FATE had popped. Decided to go get it another try instead of going to sleep.
When it came to the Defence-type FATEs, I knew I'd not be able to handle them after the first one (I'm a melee DPS). I paid attention to the map and around 5 minutes before, saw that FATEs were going down : people were farming them.
Prepared a message in chat to signal "Dataqi Chronicles continuying at [...]", and when that happened... they came just before I died, saved the FATE-chain with one NPC survivor and invited me to group. I joined and specidifed that I was doing DC only (because I was frankly tired at that point and half-comating in front of Youtube).
They went to do another FATE but came to the next one as it spawned clossely afterward. Then I guess they got curious because they followed with me the NPC horses until another FATE, then Dataqi made camp. And my two companions just stayed there.
As I knew they were farming, I warned them that next part would be in around 15 minutes. They (still completely silent) went off on their way.
15 minutes later, next part had not triggered yet, but they still passed by to see.^^ My zone-chat message 5 minutes later brought them back and there was no real stop anymore in FATEs after that, so they followed NPCs and finally interacted in chat. As expected, they were mildly curious.^^ And I can't blame them, because I feel like nobody besides old ressources ever talks about FATE chains. Unless it's the bridge one from Eastern Thanalan.
But more-so, I was happy. I'm a big ball of anxiety, and autism means that if I ever am myself around people, it makes the situation awkward (unless I'm with other people of the kind^^). And in FFXIV, where grouping usually implies productivity, FATE-chains and FATE-bosses (the big ones for achievements) are not valued.
So I was happy because, for once, I had found people that could help me till the end (an attentive DRK and a crowd-freezing BLU were all that was needed to pass!). But also because I felt we shared something. That peaceful excitement for adventure, only for adventure's sake (pretty much). Following a troup, noticing and reading lil' dialogs from a nomadic slice-of-life non-quest. And I was shacking because I guess my anxiety still exists, but also because I was 2 hours past bedtime according to my body... and also because I felt so good, so socially integrated, for once. We didn't talked much tbh, but that was exactly the quantity I needed.^^
One of them didn't get the achievement at the end unfortunately. I wish them good if they ever try it again. But I wanted to share a post. Partly because FATE-chains are nice. Partly to thank them even if they won't see it 'cause I can't name-drop and this will surely not go past 5-10 upvotes 'cause this story ain't trend-worthy.
Thanks for being my nomadic pals for two hours and helping me healing a bit from 20+ years of bad adaptations. 'twas nice
