I always get boggled by "how could this job possibly get better" question with each expansion. Specifically this time because we finally got some pretty nice quality of life skills like PLD's gap closer and combo aoe's to make trash pulls more bearable. for this thread, a friend an I had an idea how GNB would evolve for the next expansion without adding much clutter. We then came up with an idea considering how often we run into the trouble of having 2 cartridges and having to spend an extra burst strike to not overlap cartridge gains in our combo.


"Aura" - Active - Cooldown: 1 and a half minutes - Spend 2 of your cartridges to enter "Heart of Lion" for 8 seconds. Heart of lion turns Keen Edge, Brutal Shell, and Solid Barrel, into Lion's Edge, Lion's Shell, and Lion's Barrel respectively. Ability also allows the use of Continuation for Lion's Fang, Lion's Claw, and Lion's Talon after the use of Lion's Edge, Lion'sShell, and Lion's Barrel respectively.

To summarize this ability, if you're an FF8 fan, you remember Aura as a spell basically gives you an abnormally high chance to limit break with the character you have this buff on. This is especially common toward end game to use Squall's Lionheart ability after Renzokuken. The idea here would be that you spend 2 cartridges to enter a sorta "frenzy" mode that turns your default cartridge gainer combo into a more powerful version of what our gnashing fang combo is. As well as giving our cartridge combo a continuation set of abilities for its own just like our gnashing fang combo gets. It's a rough idea but I'd love the idea of having a strong version of our base combo we get every couple minutes that also gives us a cartridge to gain to followup right into our gnashing fang combo as well. I'd also invite the idea of making it look similar to Lionheart from FF8 with some very piercing sounds and ending with a slash through the target that returns you to your position somehow.... ya know, something to mimic the "slice clean in half" idea.

Each upgraded ability would just deal a lot more potency and allow continuation to contribute to our main combo as well as having new animations for those 8 seconds. Of course ending that combo you still gain a cartridge as if you were doing the combo normally and then just head right into either burst strike or GF.

The timer is a lil off but I figure this one skill could cover a large basis of 10 levels if they decide to separate skills into becoming passives and upgrades.

Another idea was to turn Blasting Zone into "Destruction Zone" during this, which basically turns Blasting Zone into an aoe cone for the duration Aura is up. Maybe there could even be an upgrade to Fated Circle somehow... But I could see this concept giving me a good high and acting as a good "limit break ability" concept like how every final skill at the end of an expansion is something good/big. Only other things I could imagine adding are improved Heart of Light where if we use heart of light with brutal shell's effect on, it's spread to everyone just like how heart of stone works.

Ideas? I originally had an overheat idea where after you use gnashing fang, it "burns in" the cartridge slot so the next time you use gnashing fang it upgrades to this lionheart idea of a combo. I really like the 2 cartridges used idea a bit more though. Especially because I feel like that drives in the use of continuation and how combo-esque feeling this job is. I'd love an endless chain of GCD > ability > GCD > ability for a good while to really make you feel fast and fluid. Maybe even add a followup for Burst Strike as an even spender.
