One of my buddies convinced me to try out Final Fantasy 14 with him. He never played it, tried it out once and never touched it again (Was not happy about it). Funny enough, I got addicted. I created my character and chose Archer as my first job/class. When arriving to Gridania, in-game tips started to pop up from left to right. I was overwhelmed by the amount of stuff being thrown at me but eventually pushed through. Around level 40, I was underwhelmed by Bard, looked great and all but not what I wanted. Eventually I learned through guides that Machinist was an option. Pushed through ARR slugfest in order to drop Bard and pick up Machinist. Leveled Machinist to 50 and continued my MSQ Quests.
HeavensWard
This expansion was overall amazing. The music in this game is what pretty much grabbed my attention and reeled me in like a fish. The boss fights got better, the music became a staple for me, and the story in this expansion blew me away. I learned to work better as a team in this expansion, mechanics started changing but not too drastically. Exploration and the introduction to flying was a game changer as well. To all the sprouts, this expansion will just tear you apart and build you up for the next one.
StormBlood
For this one, it was a nice change of pace from going to Snow, Mountains and Dragons to Ocean, Islands and underwater. This expansion was an emotional one as well and this is the expansion that reeled me in to try out Extreme Raids and Savage Raids. I did all of the Delta, Alpha and OmegaScapes. I went in blind to try out the Savage raids and in my head “How hard can it be? Can’t be any different than Normal”. I was very wrong, I apologize to all those who carried me half way.
ShadowBringers
In my humble opinion, this expansion blew me out of the water. The story at this point became so hard to take my eyes off that I just had to keep going. Overall, I believe this expansion is either up to par with Heavensward, if not better. The introduction to different “Universes” and the outcome of a potential calamity is very interesting. The music in this one was phenomenal, DAVID WISE PHENOMENAL (Brownie points if you know whose the guy). I reached level 80 and now doing Eden.
Summary:
I attempted to avoid as much spoilers as possible, but for those new players just starting. DO NOT skip MSQ cutscenes, as boring as some are, you will be missing essential information will get lost if you do decide to eventually not skip anymore. I see in streams (Twitch) that a lot of new players skip cutscenes from MSQ because they think story is not important in an MMO. This MMO is different and very story heavy. You will fall in love and care for the characters that will be introduced to you. The community is great, but there are some bad eggs (like any other game). This game is not perfect, but I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a fun adventure.
