I'm sure you guys get posts like this all the time, but I don't have any IRL friends to share this sort of thing with, so I figured I would share with y'all.
I have played WoW for about 13 years now, so just shy of half of life (I'm 27). It's been a huge part of my life, and I enjoyed (almost) every second of it up until the launch of the newest expansion, Battle for Azeroth. BfA has been pretty garbage, to be frank, and while I tried pushing through, I decided I would give XIV a try while I waited for Shadowlands. So I logged in, boosted a BRD and story skipped, and regretted every second of it. Then I made a new character and started as a SMN and set off on my journey. Since then, I've joined an FC that has been absolutely amazing to me. They actually ask me to group with them and play together. They came to where I was in the world and just hung out and chatted for a bit. They even hooked me up with some mount that's a gorilla carrying my character (so cool, by the way. I love the mounts in this game!). And aside from my interactions with the FC, I've had nothing but great experiences in the encounters I've had with random people as well. It's such a breath of fresh air having people say hi to you. I was a bit annoyed at first that the story required me to do dungeons/trials because I have had such bad experiences with toxic people in WoW lately and it's gotten tiring, but I don't dread random queues at all now. Everyone has been so pleasant to deal with, and even the people who haven't said much of anything haven't given me shit. It's been awesome. I joined a group with 3 veteran players (I assume, at least, they didn't have sprouts), and throughout the dungeon they were encouraging me and telling me mechanics for fights and stuff, and at the end they all told me I did a great job and gave me a commendation. I have no clue what the commendations are for, but it was a great feeling nonetheless. I'm actually having interactions with people that are pleasant and enjoyable and it's such a breath of fresh air.
Now, here I am, having an absolute blast every time I play this game. I find myself looking forward to logging in, looking forward to exploring the world and what is has to offer, and most importantly, looking forward to interacting with players. I've missed this feeling, but I'm so glad I have it back, and I just wanted to say thank you. I might not be playing until Shadowlands, after all. I think I've found my new game, and I'm really excited about that. So to the FFXIV community, thank you. Thank you for caring about your new players and welcoming them and helping them. It really means a lot.
