Like many players on this reddit, I was always intrigued but nervous about tanking. Well, yesterday I decided to take advantage of the preferred world buff on Famfrit, and started an alt as a GLA/PLD. What a fantastic decision! The short queue times and new playstyle have been a blast.
For context, I mained a Dragoon up to 62, so I understood the high level basics and some dungeon mechanics before starting out. Things like always gain and keep aggro, keep bosses still and faced away from the party etc, but never played a tank in an MMO prior to this.
That being said this community is amazing if you're up front about it. At the start of a new dungeon I always message "New tank, feedback is welcome" and have received helpful input each run. Things like "don't be afraid to pull an extra mob if your healer can handle it". Will I mess up a few times with more complicated dungeons/trials? No doubt, but I can't wait to clear them.
If you suffer from "Tank Anxiety", you owe it to yourself to try it. Level up a bit, run some Guildhests and Sastasha, see how it feels.
Happy Tanking!
P.S. Sorry to all the tanks that I annoyed by accidentally pulling aggro as a DPS.
