We here at the Balance FFXIV Discord are proud to announce: The Final Fantasy XIV Community Fundraiser!
In the wake of the protests against police violence and racial injustice sweeping the world, Square Enix has pledged $250,000 to the Black Lives Matter organization and related charities, and has promised to match employee donations on top of it. It fills us with pride to see them standing up for what's right in a tangible way, and we'd like to join them with a fundraiser across the FFXIV community itself. This community has often been praised (or memed, GCBTW) for being friendly and welcoming. Let's prove it. Let's show our appreciation and pride for Square Enix doing the right thing by standing with them and saying, "We demand change."
We've set up a community fundraiser for the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) through JustGiving. From the ACLU website: "The ACLU has been at the center of nearly every major civil liberties battle in the U.S. for more than 100 years." The donations will support their litigation, communications, advocacy, and public education efforts. They fight to make sure these issues make it to court, not just to demand accountability where there may otherwise be none, but to pave the way for legal change on a national scale. In addition to the fundraiser for ACLU, Nemekh from the Balance and owner of Akh Morning, has created a fundraiser that directly supports the BLM Organization.
If you are interested, please consider donating within your means or spreading the word. 100% of the money donated through JustGiving goes straight to the ACLU and BLM for this fundraiser.
