Yeah, idk man, every once in a while I think about that song in the context of Endwalker's themes and I just gotta talk about it. I mean, just look at this, man:
"Well come and well met, my brave little spark/How long you've wandered, burned bright as a star/Oh, I have awaited you patiently all this time/Past every fate/Now sing with me once more, share of your life"
My brave little spark? Are you joking?! Presenting this with the familiarity of a sort of mother figure who'd been waiting for YOU specifically, not only welcoming you but welcoming you BACK, it doesn't just convey the infinite love attributed to most monotheistic gods beautifully. It's also a remarkably poignant tie-in to one of Endwalker's most compelling philosophical propositions: That the exchange of faith between us and God is not one-sided, but mutual.
"Remember the rain, near and far beloved/Each drop a blessing from heavens above/And how as time flowed on those waters became one/Streams, rivers and lakes/Reaching for the horizon and far beyond"
C'mon now. Comparing the mathematical implausibility of not only our existence, but our meeting with our loved ones in this molecule of time in this molecule of space?? Akining the vastness of possibilities to the drops of rain that make up the sea?! In this moment asking us to be filled with gratitude for the extraordinary meeting and see death as a rejoining (!!!!!) of our soul with their's. Just wow.
"Deep, dark, far away, I have heard your voice, weighed your every choice/Now our hands join round the meaning you sought/I'll catch your tears, quench your fears with joy til you near the shore/Where in time, all shall as hope be reborn"
Presenting this as a conversation with God at our moment of death is not only extremely bold but beautifully poignant considering Endwalker's many existential themes. The meaning we sought in life (The Question) now evident at its end (the ANSWERS) as we are rushed by this wave of aforementioned gratitude. Our tears dried and fears put to rest as we are assured that just as these drops of rain flowed out onto the sea, they will again find their way onto shore. We await life as we once did death.
Nah, man, they cooked. o.o
