I started playing back in 2015, right when my first daughter was born. XIV was my companion during the long night's awake with the baby, who would only sleep on a shoulder (turns out she had didn't reflux, so lying in the crib or basinet gave her a sore tummy).
I played on PS4, because the living room was comfortable and controller made it possible to play while holding a sleeping baby, but once she grew out of the sleepless nights, I could never find time to play, and so I never made it through the MSQ.
Fast forward to Winter 2020 and I picked up XIV, this time on PC with a fresh Trial account, so as not to monopolise the living room during pandemic isolation. I had a pretty good run for about 6 months, slowly chipping away at the MSQ but spending more time leveling the different jobs and trying become proficient as Tank and Healer.
I managed to make it all the way to Ultima and then I was resigned to a new role and my already limited free time evaporated into the stress figuring out my new job, upskilling etc.
A few months ago took the time to install XIV on my Steam Deck and today, after almost 9 years - I have completed ARR. It has been a journey, but I have great confidence that my WoL might make it through to the end of the a trial content, by the time my little girl finishes highschool. The clock is ticking
