I'm a new FFXIV player and decided to give it a try to see how far gaming on linux has come along. Well, the experience is fantastic and I'm now a paying member, which I didn't expect. First and foremost, TY SQ-Enix for a well put together mmo, true to the genre.
Notes for the devs:
1. Please please please! do not drop support for the old launcher, it is the _only_ way I was able to launch and patch the game. I was not able to figure out what is wrong with the new launcher on WINE and I would be devastated if the old launcher is completely removed, essentially locking us out until we sort out how to make the new launcher work properly (maybe you can help facilitate this?)
2. Unlike the Shadowbringer movie which plays fine, the first into cutscene (the calamity ffxiv reborn intro movie) hangs the game on startup. Disabling the cutscene through the boot config allows the game to function properly.
For anyone else that wishes to try on linux, check-out protondb (https://www.protondb.com/app/39210) for up to date status on compatibility with steam/proton.
