FFXIV gets better and better every single expansion, in almost every aspect, but there's one thing I feel like A Realm Reborn still did best.

I have marathoned the game ever since its Xbox release around 5 months ago or so and it's been a wild ride and I can confidently say it's my favourite game of all time.

The music, the story, the characters, the dungeons, the atmosphere, the content- it's all top notch, and has made me feel in love with its universe time and time again.

Currently going through Dawntrail and adoring it, but I went back to Gridania briefly to try and level Lancer and one thing stood out to me about the A Realm Reborn regions.

Just how dense, and hand-crafted they feel.

From Heavensward all the way to Dawntrail onwards, every single region ere's on the side of large and empty expanses, I went back to every single area to confirm and it kinda holds true. That's not to say ARR didn't have empty areas as well, Coerthas and Southern Thanalan come to mind.

I understand the significance of having some expansive areas especially for big conflicts, but it'd be nice to also have some more dense/small regions where you're not flying over empty copy-pasted terrain for awhile.

The lore of the regions, the music, the artdirection, and unique enemies and content have all improved exponentially in comparison.

I feel like they could balance the zones a bit more between expansive wild terrains, and densly packed and smaller more intimate zones.

Not sure if anyone agrees though.
