FFXIV EU account playing in South Korea (ping / VPN / transfer)

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend and I just moved to Seoul, South Korea for about one year, and we’d like to keep playing FFXIV together.

We both have EU accounts/characters (EU Data Center). Since we’ll often play from Korean PC bangs, we have a few questions:

1) PC bang login: can we just log in with our EU credentials and play normally?

  • Has anyone here played FFXIV from a PC bang in South Korea?
  • Can you simply log into the game with your EU Square Enix / Mog Station account (EU service account) and it works?
  • Any common issues in PC bangs (launcher restrictions, admin rights, patching, blocked ports, etc.)?

2) EU servers from Korea: ping / gameplay experience

  • If we stay on EU DC while living in Korea, how is the experience in terms of ping / lag / packet loss?
  • Is it still comfortable for normal content (dungeons/raids), or does it become frustrating?

3) Do we need a VPN in Korea?

I’ve seen conflicting info:

  • Some people say you must use a VPN in South Korea or you’ll have problems.
  • Others say it’s totally fine without one.

So what’s the reality in 2026?
Any PC bang-specific experience would be amazing.

Thanks a lot in advance!
