Ffxis Legacy Does Live In Ffxiv. And It Can Feel Just Like It. We Just Did Not Notice.

This may be the most boring video to most people (warning its like 28 minutes long) but a lot of us remember what FFXI felt like and concur FFXIV is not that.

What I miss about FFXI was the sense of the journey, see getting places was hard and you had to so a lot of the game was spent just trying to be wherever you needed to be and FFXIV is nothing like that, in fact, the world feels super small and the overworld feels dead. Or so I thought. Since we recently have time in our hands I decided to do a journey in FFXIV the manual way just to see what I would find.

I can't believe how delighted I was to find FFXI's legacy mostly intact, that the world is actually pretty big, and the overworld still has life in it. It's just that with teleportation being so convenient I don't think anyone has actually had time to even notice it.

If you are an XI vet, want to watch Eorzea's beauty, are thinking about getting into the game but want to see it a bit more and have enough patience I encourage you to watch the video. And let your feelings sink in. For me, XIs feelings were back.

Which brings me to the following discussion point, Should travel be as convenient as it is? See, once it is that easy, there's no way we'd choose to travel the hard way, even I won't, but is the game really better for those mechanisms? Because I, like others, cherished the game not making it easy in XI. This is a interesting topic because it's one of things that once it's there, you wouldn't stop using it but maybe the devs not adding these mechanisms and forcing you to do things the inconvenient way is something we'd actually end up enjoying.

I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on the matter. And if I had one request, it would be the XIVs devs add transitions like the boat to Thanalan from Limsa. I know ship journeys are a thing of the past (The age of exploration if you will) but those transitions make it feel so much more cool and immersive even if they are only 10 seconds.

BTW Eorzea IS beautiful.
