Few Questions From A Sprout

Heya fellow redditors!

I've just started playing FFXIV and so far.. great experience!

I am still learning the game, so a lot of answers for other questions will likely pop up in the future, BUT for now, it's just me.

My first question is about the way people see classes, I've read some people play 'base jobs/classes' for longer than you're supposed to. As an example let's say, playing Lancer, but not upgrading to Dragoon. Is this a thing? If so, is it a bad thing? Aren't you losing out on playing Dragoon, damage loss abilities so on or is it actually a viable thing?

Second question; is it 'bad' to level as a healer? As I am a new player I only have access to Conjurer, which I don't mind, but usually leveling is a chore as a healer in other games, but there you have the choice of multispeccing, say WoW where you could easily switch over to a DPS and still obtain gear for your healer. In FFXIV as I've understood it, you have to level the class specifically, even if you can obtain the gear through other means. Question being, is leveling through quests as a healer not that viable/fun and are you sorta forced to go the dungeon leveling route?

Third; I have no third, I just wanna thank you guys for any answers, small or big, matters not. Been enjoying a much needed friendly community so far and I am looking forward to getting back into the game.

Cheers!

Edit: Oh shit, I completely forgot! If you guys have ANY tips for ANYTHING in the game, please let me know! Will use all the guidance I can get!
