I'm not sure how they could do it. It feels like the Twelve and the fallout of the raid would be INCREDIBLY important and color the path of entire cultures across at least Aldenard but probably even Ilsabard. At first I thought that the door was left open to a presence as a mysterious force that is one with the land, but it's confirmed in the recent short story - and in the raid, honestly - that their cores have returned to be reborn as new life. Potentially mortal. And this would obviously take a very long time and so our WoL is unlikely to ever see it. This is slightly at odds with Oschon returning for this year's Rising in an optional scene and telling us that the gods are still watching us - somehow? Which is quite odd? I don't know many people who even realized he had a scene.

But that's Twelve gods, each with their own domains, each tied to a heaven and hell, many of which who have very important ties to the cultures we know best. There's familial connections between them, there's potential for their dogma to be twisted like in Ishgard and for them to actually react to that, there's potential for just one to go rogue in some way and need to be corrected. And it feels like that deep, deep well of worldbuilding is just gone now.

I feel like if they wanted to revisit this well in the future they could, even though the gods are "dead." HOWEVER, it's now tied to an optional raid. An Endwalker one. Making CT required proves that they CAN do this, but I have to imagine that they're going to try to avoid it at all costs.

I know Yoshi P advised us to do the raid series before doing DT, and presumably that might connect to some optional content - optional content can be required for yet more optional content. But as for the MSQ, the main storyline, the meat of the plot and the part where spectacle and budget are most often employed, may not be able to touch them as a relevant force ever again.

...But then there was that one scene with Oschon for the Rising. And I'm just not sure.
